2012年の24時間テレビの募金活動の際、募金に並んだ人たちに対し、他の嵐のメンバーは握手に応じていたが、櫻井翔は「握手をするために来たの？」と拒否。翌年の24時間テレビでは、なんと手を後ろに組み、一切握手しませんのポーズだったそう。目的がはっきりしているとの見解もあるが。
ファンへの対応が悪いというのは昔から言われていることのよう。「ツバやガムを吐かれた」「『どけよブス！』と言われた」などの暴言を吐かれたという証言は数知れず。彼はマナーを人一倍気にしているようなので、暴言を吐かれたファンたちの対応がお気に召さなかったのかも知れない。
