第１４５回直木賞（日本文学振興会主催）の選考委員会によって選ばれた池井戸潤氏作、『下町ロケット』。累計部数は、130万部を越えるベストセラーだ。
そのストーリーは、横暴な大企業に振り回され、存亡の危機に陥った町工場を描いたビジネス・エンターテインメント小説。宇宙ロケットを飛ばす夢をあきらめ、実家の町工場を継いだ主人公が取得した最先端特許をめぐり、さまざまな人間模様が繰り広げられる。
2011年にもドラマ化されており、2011年8月～9月にはWOWOWの連続ドラマとして放送された。（主演は、三上博史）
『下町ロケット』は実話？
宇宙科学開発機構→宇宙航空研究開発機構（JAXA）、帝国重工→三菱重工、東京経済新聞→日本経済新聞など、実在のモデルでは？と憶測が飛びかっておりますが、『下町ロケット』は完全なフィクションとのことで、モチーフとなる実在の企業は特に無いようです。

2013年の『半沢直樹』や2014年の『ルーズヴェルト・ゲーム』に続き、2015年のドラマ業界は、まさに小説家・池井戸潤の独壇場といえよう。春に放送された『ようこそ、わが家へ』（フジテレビ系）は、「月9としてはシリアスすぎる」と言われながらも平均視聴率12・55％！ヒットを飛ばし、続く夏には、『花咲舞が黙ってない』（日本テレビ系）が同クール唯一の全話2ケタ視聴率を記録したほか、平均でも14.4％と断トツ1位となった。
